Ketterdam: A bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price – and not one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone…
A convict with a thirst for revenge..
A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager..
A runaway with a privileged past..
A spy known as the Wraith..
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums..
A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes..
Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction – if they don’t kill each other first.
When I first saw this book, it was all over the internet along with it’s sequel, Crooked Kingdom. I’m very active on the bookstagram community and couldn’t help but see it in almost everyone’s posts. This is why I picked them up, and as a result, I have fallen in love with Leigh Bardugo’s writing as well as the characters.
The characters in this book are so complex and each have their own story to tell. Bardugo gave us a chance to glimpse inside each characters past and present with alternating point of views (which I loved). I mean, this woman is a genius. No wonder everyone wanted these books!
I started this duology without reading the Grisha Trilogy first. After asking around, a lot of people said it wasn’t necessary, and I completely agree. If you’re reading this and haven’t read any of her other books, it will not hurt you at all to start the duology before you read the trilogy. With that being said, I purchased the Grisha trilogy the day after I finished Six of Crows. =]
Enough about the other books, let’s continue talking about how amazing this book is! I try not to post spoilers during my reviews but sometimes that’s a little tough. I DO however, have to talk about Kaz Brekker and how absolutely amazing he is…and this is known throughout the book community because it seems that everyone is in love with this fictional character…including myself. (So much so, that I’m currently trying to talk my husband into letting me name our new dog Kaz)
Kaz, AKA Dirtyhands, Bastard of the Barrel, whatever you may want to call him, is SUCH a complex character and I bow down to Bardugo for being a complete genius when creating him. He’s what holds the story together, and his past is essential to the story, obviously.
To continue talking about this book, it is easily one of my favorite reads of this year…maybe one of my favorite reads since who knows when?! It’s THAT amazing, and I believe there are plenty of people who can back me up on this. It’s full of action, twists and turns throughout every chapter and may include a tad bit of flirting between a few different characters, which I found to be absolutely adorable..even though some people don’t like that type of things in their current read. More power to ya!
Unfortunately, I have tried my best to avoid spoilers during this post which has kinda left me empty handed. I just have to say that this book is completely action packed and left me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The depth of the story along with each character has left me utterly speechless because I have yet to find a book that I enjoy as much as I did this one. You simply can’t go wrong by picking this book up and starting it ASAP.
A million and one star review for Six of Crows!!!
